You’ll get your chance come Nov. 2 to seat four people on the Austin Public School Board. Whether you choose to put all four incumbents back on the board, put all new faces on the board, or mix things up – that can have a great impact on the educational opportunities of children in this area for the next four years and beyond.

So don’t walk into the voting booth and panic. Don’t just mark the top four names on the ballot – unless that’s who you truly support. Take some time out and make sure you know which candidates support random drug testing, which ones support having a student on the board. Know who has a background in education and who has a background in bookkeeping. Who has ideas that mesh with yours? Who do you think would work well with the community?

Read the paper. Attend tonight’s forum at Ellis Middle School, held at 7 p.m. and sponsored by the League of Women Voters. When you go to make your choice on Nov. 2, make it an informed one.
