In the boys race, Lake City was the winning team with 44 points, Winona was next with 46, Albert Lea third with 71, Faribault fourth with 96, and the Packers fifth with 112. The leader of the pack in the 5,000-meter race was Albert Lea’s Eric Beck with a time of 17:30.

Lee Nordby was the top Packer runner. He finished in 16th with a time of 18:51. Justin Poirier (22nd) ran in a time of 19:31, Matt Adwell (23rd) in a time of 19:52, Mike Hanson (25th) 20:15, and Nick Graber (26th) 20:16.

In the 4,000-meter girls meet, Winona was the top team, scoring 33 points, next were Lake City 68, Faribault 69, Albert Lea 69, and Austin 140. Albert Lea’s Melissa Roche won the race with a time of 15:55.

Austin’s top runner was Sara Turvey. She finished 16th in a time of 17:37.

"Sara ran a good race," Austin coach Tony Einertson said. "We went with a little different strategy for her today. We wanted to see how well she could run with the front pack. She stayed with the front over the first mile before she dropped back with a side ache after about a mile. She then recovered well."

The rest of the Packers were packed together with finishes of 28th, 31st, 32nd, and 33rd. They were, respectively, Natalie Bowers 18:24, Jessica Bird 21:20, Sara Weis 21:40, and LaRae Johanns.

The Packers next race is the Big Nine Conference meet. It happens next Tuesday at the Brooktree Golf Course in Owatonna.
