The North Minnesota team, comprised of players from St. Cloud to Brainerd, won the Mider Cup disc golf tournament at Todd Park on Saturday.

All told, 67 players participated in the Mider Cup – 28 from the North, 22 from the South (Austin to Fairmont), 10 from West Metro and seven from East Metro.

The North won its fifth straight title and the right to host next year’s Mider Cup.

"They had more people and better scores," said event organizer Debbie Huckaby of Austin.

Local top finishers include: Nikki Roell, women’s closest to the pin; Chad Johnson, advanced amateur closest to the pin; Andy Barrera, third place in the amateur division; and Huckaby, first in the women’s division.

Shaffer hits hole-in-one

Chris Shaffer shot a hole-in-one at Meadow Greens Golf Course on Sunday.

Shaffer aced the 145-yard No. 7 using an 8-iron.

Jim Gates and Jim Neisen witnessed the feat.
