The Lyle/Pacelli volleyball team finished its first swing through the Southeast Conference West Division with a victorious trip to Grand Meadow Tuesday. The win was L/P’s fourth without a loss in the division. The scores in the four-game match were 18-16, 15-4, 15-17, 15-7.
"We’re playing very well," Lyle/Pacelli coach Norm Blaser said. "Tonight’s match was no different."
The first game saw the visitors break out to a 13-7 lead. The Superlarks then made things interesting by scoring nine of the next 11 points to take a 16-15 lead. L/P then scored three straight points to squeak out the win.
"We’re a hitting team," Blaser said. "They’re a digging team and they kept giving ball back to us."
"They came right at us in game two," Grand Meadow coach Dawn Baudoin said. "We were stumbling. Game three was close throughout before we finally won the last three points on Tristan Davis’ serve."
L/P went up 14-6 in game four, but had a tough time scoring the ultimate point. They had to go through the entire service rotation until it got back to Melissa Ehret who closed out the win.
"We passed the ball well and served well," Baudoin said, "while they hit well and served well. We had a few chances on some free balls but we didn’t take advantage."
The top attackers for the Lions were Laura Nelson with 12, Joan Sheedy with 11, and Kassie Baldner with eight. Nelson also had five ace blocks while Baldner had 27 digs. Nicole Emiliusen was 20-for-20 serving with 15 points won.
Angie Holst put down eight balls for the Superlarks and they scored 16 points on Dianna Jones’ serve.
L/P (9-6, 4-0) is in Adams on Thursday to play Southland. The Rebels were beaten three games to one by Fillmore Central Tuesday, 16-14, 15-11, 8-15, 15-7. Grand Meadow (2-9, 2-2) is in LeRoy.
