The Awesome Blossoms stepped up their games in the championship match at Montgomery Saturday. The result was a two-game sweep of host Montgomery-Lonsdale, 15-7, 15-11 in the best-of-three match.
Blooming Prairie finished second in its pool with a 15-7, 15-13 win over J-W-P and 15-9, 15-6 win over Cleveland sandwiched around a 6-15, 15-9 total points loss to Montgomery.
In the semifinals, the Blossoms took on the No. 1 team from the other pool, Waterville-Elysian-Morristown. The Blossoms lost the first game 7-15, before roaring back by winning the next two by identical scores of 15-6.
Middle hitters Jana Peterson and Ranell Goette again had big days for the Blossoms. Peterson’s numbers for the tournament were, 40 kills, six blocks, and 36 digs. Goette had 35 kills, 14 blocks, and 32 digs.
Missy Avery was the most potent server for BP with eight ace serves. Sara Anderson quarterbacked the offense with 108 assists.
Blooming Prairie (12-3, 5-0 in the Gopher Conference) travels to Faribault on Tuesday. The match with Bethlehem Academy will be an early season showdown for first place in the Gopher, as B-A is also undefeated in conference play.
