Riverland freshman Melissa Bemis has been selected as the Minnesota Community College South Division Player of the Week for Sept. 13-18.
In 15 games, the 6-foot middle hitter out of Waterville-Elysian-Morristown High School had 49 kills, 22 blocks, 28 digs and six service aces. Riverland went 4-1-1 during the same period.
Through 41 games, Bemis ranks among the South Division leaders in several categories. She is eighth in digs per game (1.90), fourth in attack percentage (.241), fifth in kills per game (2.07) and third in blocks per game (1.05).
Riverland (6-10, 1-1 MCCC) will face Anoka-Ramsey on the road this Wednesday and play its home opener this Friday at 6:30 p.m. against Ridgewater.
Lanesboro 3, Grand Meadow 0
The Lanesboro Burros kept their perfect record intact Monday night, beating the Grand Meadow Superlarks on the road, 15-5, 15-4, 15-6.
Lanesboro (5-0, 2-0) was led by Heather Haugin’s nine kills and Crystal Eide’s 21 set assists.
Grand Meadow (1-8, 1-1) will be at Fillmore Central on Thursday.
