Austin Police pulled over a 22-year-old man on Saturday for driving under the influence, then found the man to be an illegal alien, according to reports.
Benjamin Prada, of 404 1/2 South Main St., was taken into custody on the DUI arrest and is being held in Mower County jail. The Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) in Bloomington has placed a hold on Prada.
Prada was reportedly pulled over on the 500 block of 6th Ave. SE at 8:08 p.m.
The police report gave scant details as to how it was determined Prada was an illegal alien. The report did not say which country Prada hailed from or whether or not he provided false identification.
Since the June 13 murder in Austin of one illegal alien by another, more than a dozen illegal aliens had been found in Mower County and have been taken into custody by the INS, which by order of federal statute has authority in such cases. All of those found have been men and all of them were discovered during traffic stops.
