Picks: Having a great weekend

Published Tuesday, October 21, 2008

Well I only picked five games right last week, my fantasy football team was shelled by about 50 points, and my beloved Badgers looked almost worthless in a loss to Iowa, but it was still one of my best football weekend’s ever. That because I was one of the 70,000 people in the stands to watch my Packers dominate the Colts Sunday. It was my third Lambeau experience and it keeps getting better. The highlight for me came when Peyton Manning threw his first of two touch downs to the Packers. After Nick Collins caught a sailing pass and put on a running display that Barry Sanders would’ve been proud of for a Green Bay score I noticed one person wasn’t cheering. As I celebrated I saw a man walking out of our section with a Peyton jersey on. He had his head down in shame. I like to think he walked to his car and cried all the way home, but I’m pretty sure he was taking a convenient bathroom break. It was also fun to watch Aaron Rodgers in person. The guy may not have the arm of Favre, but he’s twice as smart with his throws. I was also glad to see the Lambeau faithful give him his proper cheers when he walked off the field after the game. I honestly encouarge every football fan (even Viking backers) to make at least one trip to Lambeau in their lifetime. It’s a blast.

Picks:

Buffalo at Miami

Pick: BILLS

The Bills defense is holding teams down while their offense makes just enough plays to win.

St. Louis at New England

Pick: PATRIOTS

I know the Rams beat Dallas, but I’m not picking them to win against a Patriots team that dominated the Broncos.

San Diego at New Orleans

Pick: CHARGERS

In a game that is being played in England, I see the Chargers taking advantage of a Saints team that will be missing Reggie Bush.

Kansas City at NY Jets

Pick: JETS

The Jets should recover from a terrible loss to the woeful Raiders. I said it before and I’ll say it again. Favre usually follows up bad games with good ones — unless it’s in the playoffs because that bad game usually ended the Packers’ season.

Atlanta at Philadelphia

Pick: FALCONS

I’m sick of hearing how great the Eagles are and that their the best 3-3 team in the league.

Arizona at Carolina

Pick: PANTHERS

Panthers defense will get to Kurt Warner. Early and often.

Oakland at Baltimore

Pick: RAVENS

McGahee’s resurgance last week gives Ravens a legit run threat.

Tampa Bay at Dallas

Pick: COWBOYS

The golden rule is when you lose to the Rams I pick against you. I can’t wait to hear what T.O. says after Ronde Barber shuts him down and the Cowboys struggle to score.

Washington at Detroit

Pick: REDSKINS

Last week I said I thought the Lions may have something in their new QB. I was wrong a hundred times and a apologize — the Lions are garbage.

Cincinnati at Houston

Pick: TEXANS

Winless Bengals can’t be trusted on the road. And by trusted I mean trusted not to go out partying the night before the game. Packer older timer Max McGee is the only one who can play hungover.

Cleveland at Jacksonville

Pick: JAGUARS

Jacksonville comes off a bye week and should have a strong defensive plan to shut down the Browns.

NY Giants at Pittsburgh

Pick: STEELERS

In a very intriguing game I’ll pick the Steelers. I think the Giants have beat up on some bad teams and may not be as good as their 5-1 record.

Seattle at San Francisco

Pick: 49ERS

The Seahawks have fallen far since they were jobbed by the refs in the Super Bowl

Indianapolis at Tennesee

Pick: COLTS

The Colts struggle stopping the run and the Titans ran for over 300 yards last week. It’s that simple.

RECORD Last week: 5-9 (65-37 overall)
