Ouch! Looks like Branstner touched on a nerve with the Herald. Apparently the truth hurts. So much for unbiased reporting. What a joke.

We have laws for a reason. We don't get to pick and choose which ones are ok to break.
You are very much in the minority if you think having illegal aliens invade Austin is a wonderful thing.

I'm done partaking in this discussion as it's taking away from the original story, the one where immigrants came here legally and are assimilating into American culture.
They deserve much credit for abiding by our laws and going through the process in the appropriate manner.
You can not compare them to illegal aliens, that's not fair to them at all.

I chose not to lower myself to your level by buying into your sarcasm. Your sarcasm put an ugly spin on an otherwise heartwarming story. It was immature and uncalled for.

How sad that some people can't celebrate diversity and LEGAL immigration without putting an ugly spin on it. Credit is due to these girls for going through the legal channels and for wanting to assimilate into American society. Shame on YOU for trying to rob them of that!
Wanting and expecting laws to be upheld and enforced is not hypocritical and backwards. Advocating for the breaking of those laws however, is.
I didn't turn this into an "immigration issue", the story IS about immigration. The right kind.

This is a wonderful example of what diversity and LEGAL immigration is about! Best of luck to the girls!

Source quoted from theamericanview.com:

"Let’s say some woman breaks into your house. Let’s say that when you discover her in your house, you insist that she leave.

But she says, “I’ve made all the beds and washed the dishes and done the laundry and swept the floors; I’ve done all the things you don’t like to do. I’m hard-working and honest (except for when I broke into your house).

Not only must you let me stay, you must add me to your family’s insurance plan, educate my kids, and provide other benefits to me and to my family. My husband will do your yard work because he too is hard-working and honest (except for that breaking in part.)”

She continues, “If you try to call the police or force me out, I will call my friends, who will picket your house carrying signs that proclaim my right to be there. It’s only fair, after all, because you have a nicer house than I do, and I’m just trying to better myself. I’m hard-working and honest, um, except for well, you know.”

She concludes, “And what a deal it is for me!! I live in your house, contributing nothing for the cost of my keep, and there is nothing you can do about it without being accused of selfishness, prejudice and being an anti-housebreaker. (SHAME ON YOU!) Oh yeah, and I want you to learn my language so you can communicate with me.”

Learn the difference between LEGAL immigrant and ILLEGAL ALIEN!
This is NOT a race issue! As someone else already stated, "Being an Illegal Alien is not a race"!

Anyone in Austin caught knowingly employing or harboring (renting to) an illegal alien should be charged with a crime.

Perhaps they don't qualify for some of the programs you listed but they DO often get; Free school lunches, Free Interpreter services, Section 8 Housing, Food Stamps, Free medical care including dental care, AFDC (welfare), Free meals, food shelf, and holiday baskets from the Salvation Army, Free school supplies, and much more.

This coupled with working a fulltime job under a different identity make for a very nice existence for them!

Always playing the race card! It's been overplayed way too many times and has gotten old.

Race has NOTHING to do with expecting our laws to be abided by and enforced!

If someone has entered this country illegally, they HAVE broken the law and ARE criminals! and should be treated as such.
