Mia Simpson, a native of Spring Valley, has been the public affairs reporter at the Austin Daily Herald since June 2007. She moved to Austin from the Twin Cities, where she covered state politics for Session Weekly, a magazine published by the Minnesota House of Representatives. Simpson received her bachelor's degree from Macalester College and master's in journalism from the University of Oregon.

Seventeen-year-old Jacob Ewert decided to donate blood Tuesday during the Red Cross of Mower County drive. The three-day effort takes place at Oak Park Mall through today.
