Katie Johnson has been news editor at the Austin Daily Herald since June 2007 and also covers education. She started at the Herald in November 2006 as the public affairs reporter. Prior to that, she was a reporter and photographer at the Park Rapids Enterprise for two years. The South Dakota native has newspaper experience at the Traill County Tribune in Mayville, N.D., and the High Plains Reader in Fargo, N.D., and has covered a wide range of topics, including Native American powwows, declining enrollment at the country's smallest university and shoreland management in northern Minnesota lakes. Katie is a 2004 graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead.
