David Richards has been managing editor at the Austin Daily Herald since August 2008. He graduated from the University of Oregon with a bachelor's degree in journalism in 1999 and was sports editor and later associate editor at the Central Oregonian in Prineville, Ore. from 1999 to 2003. He was managing editor at the Mariposa Tribune in Mariposa, Calif. from 2003 to 2004 and managing editor at the Sierra Star in Oakhurst, Calif. from 2004 to 2008. He has two sisters who live in Minnesota, one in Byron and one in Savage, and he spent the first two years of college at St. Mary's University in Winona.

Austin's Matthew Simonson braves the cold to ride his bike to the library Monday. Mower County is in a wind chill advisory, with wind chills expected up to 30 below zero, through mid morning Tuesday.
