Can anyone point out any real differences between the two? I have to admit, I'm ill informed on this one.

I would hope that the ADH staff would take the poll results and do some in depth reporting on the views of the two candidates. Give us some information, please.

I am glad that I am not voting on this one. I would be flipping a coin in the voting booth. I think this informal poll is what I have been thinking. Two really great guys. The Fifth District is a winner with either one.

dentedcan-give them a few days in office and that will change.

I don't know if they'll be good commissioners or not, just that they seem to be nearly identical.
We need lots more information.

All I know is it will be a new view point!! In the upcoming elections over the next few years , all I ask is , vote out all incumbants for what they have done to the city of austin , especially the destruction of downtown , and the county in raised taxes!!

"AND the County" - It was the county and the county alone who did what they did to the downtown. Toss them on their cans for that reason and for the ridiculous waste of resources represented by that devastation.
You can toss the city folks to the curb with the trash as well. Just don't do it over the destruction of three blocks of downtown. There are plenty of reasons without blaming them for things they weren't responsible for.

The jail is being built, it's a done deal regardless of how you and I feel about it. Now more than ever we need to elect quality leaders to the County Board and Sheriff's position, to ensure that this justice center runs at optimal efficiency and at absolute minimal costs to the tax payer. The damage is done, lets fix it with our vote!

It is important to point out that the mantra during the jail debate was "it is better to own than rent". Now, they have learned what we all predicted - "It is exponentially more expensive to own than to rent".
I see that Mr. Felton has adopted that line of thinking when he answers questions about the proposed multi-milliion dollar DHS project under consideration. He considers it wasteful to rent and better to own.
There is no doubt that owning a new DHS building - or even likely spending millions to renovate space in the old courthouse - will cost the tax payers more than renting the current space at the mall. It doesn't take any special skill to look at the numbers and come to that conclusion.
The first step is to make an honest comparison. That comparison was never done for the jail project. Now we have to find the money to pay for that mistake. It is shocking that a candidate who has watched that blunder would come out and repeat over an over the same mantra that led to the blunder.
Elect Felton and you will see history repeat itself. Elect Ankeny and you will have one voice saying "we need to be careful in deciding whether to spend that kind of money". One voice won't change the direction, but it is a start.

One more thought.
One candidate is a retired government employee. The other an active life long private sector small business owner.
One understands how government works. One understands how the real world works.
One wants to spend your tax dollars. One wants to be careful not to waste your tax dollars.
Both are good men. But only one is good for the County.

Thanks for analysis, folks, Ankeny gets my support.
btw: I see the commissioners authorized hiring 5 new jailers.
