Albert Lea man caught shoplifting charged with forgery

Published Tuesday, September 29, 2009

An Albert Lea man faces two counts of felony forgery after being stopped for shoplifting Friday and asked for his ID.

Braulio Mendez Morales, 25, also faces a lesser count of theft. He appeared in court Monday on the charges and is scheduled for arraignment Oct. 8.

According to a court complaint, Morales was stopped by a Wal-Mart employee for allegedly taking a $9 wallet.

When police arrived, the employee gave an officer the Minnesota ID that Morales had given him.

The officer noticed that it expired in 2010, yet it featured the state’s old design, which was last used in 2003, according to the complaint.

The officer questioned Morales, who admitted that he bought the card from a friend in Austin who had made it for him.

Morales was taken to jail, where he is being held on $20,000 bail, or $5,000 with conditions.

A further review of his record indicated that he is in the country illegally and had previously been apprehended and voluntarily returned to Mexico.

Congrats to Austin Police for noticing the seal was obsolete! Good job! Now, escort to deport! Sick and tired of the illegals in our Country! There are many Americans whom are homeless and jobless, time to take care of OUR OWN!

It is getting very old and depressing. I say either A. start enforcing the laws harder and do something about this or B. Make them all legal so their taxes will be paid and no more identities will be stolen.

leftys
b won't work!!
If it did we'd have to empty out all our prisons. If you give free pardons to one, you have to do it for all. Think about it!!!!

It is not pardoning them. I understand what you mean though. But it is different. Think about how much tax money it would bring in and how much it would save individuals who are victims of ID theft.

I'm in no means taking a stand here but you must realize we would all do the same thing if we were in their shoes . I undertand it takes almost 15 years for some of them to become legal. they are no different than us as far as having mouths to feed and bills to pay. our system makes them do the things they do as far as driving illegally, working illegally, etc. No different than the citizen that keeps getting picked up for DUI and keeps driving with no license. This comment isn't to upset anyone or to get any backlash from any of you. Just realize and think about what our system and theirs has done. It's messed everyone up to put it politely. I don't like it that most legal whether natural or otherwise can't get jobs. Back to our system and no regulations. Thank you to a former president for that. Corporations move from here to other countries. We need to stop supporting those efforts by not buying those products. Problem is it's hard to find anything not made in the USA. If you noticed we as a nation controlled what happened the last several years with the stock market, jobs, the whole thing. The ones that have money sat on it as if they had lost their jobs and buying power. Everyone lost money in the stock market whether big or small. Shame on us for gambling it instead of putting it in safe, stable funds. We don't live in the country that most of this community is used to. Our country has changed and so has our community and we all let it happen. We never voiced our opinions until it was too late. We tend to be like a herd and always following the pack - don't make waves. Well we should have had a sunami - It seems no one cares about anyone but themseves anymore or they expect to be paid for everything they do. What happened to helping out just to help out or what they called being a good citizen. Tell me how do people make way more money than they need and watch people struggle due to usually no fault of their own. Yes there are those who will always want hand outs. When we realize we can't depend on government to take care of us and that we all have to pitch in our communities. That means supporting locally and not flying off for a shopping spree in Chicago or New York. Spend your money here in Austin and Minnesota. WE forgot the golden rule as if we hadn't we wouldn't have the problems we have. off the subject? not really - all of these things brought us to where we are today. they tried to tell us but we wouldn't listen

jawfa...you got all that from some beaner stealing a wallet and committing felony ID fraud? If you could explain to everyone how the 15 year wait to get into the country is anybodys fault, you know..considering the fact we allow 2-4 million people in every year and it takes a long time to process these people because a lot of them want to kill us. I would also like for you or anyone to explain why we need millions more people here, taking into account that we have 6 people for every job now (labor department statistics).

I'll be interested to see the answer
