Fire destroys Dexter house

Published Tuesday, September 22, 2009

A fire in Dexter destroyed an unoccupied house and injured no one early Tuesday.

The fire occurred at 69197 235th St. The Grand Meadow and Dexter fire departments, as well as the Mower County Sheriff’s Office, responded at around 3:30 a.m.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time and an investigation will continue.

According to a sheriff’s report, the house was completely engulfed in flames when a sheriff’s deputy arrived. The deputy spoke with Bryan and Mary Huse, who live next door but also own the 69197 residence.

Bryan Huse, 46, said they had rented the property out but the previous tenant had left about a month ago.

He said he last saw the house at around 12:30 a.m. and noticed nothing out of the ordinary. He did say he had been doing some housework in the residence, but nothing was plugged in.

Mary Huse, 45, said she arrived home around midnight, noticed nothing wrong with the residence and went to bed.
