Woman charged for allegedly slashing boyfriend

Published Tuesday, October 20, 2009

An Austin woman has been charged with felony assault for allegedly slashing her boyfriend with a knife, punching him and biting him Saturday.

Juana Viviana Lopez, 21, is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday. Along with the second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon charge, she faces a felony count of terroristic threats, as well as one lesser charge.

According to a court complaint, officers arrived to the couple’s residence Saturday evening and found shards of broken glass from windows smashed out of the boyfriend’s truck.

The boyfriend, 32, said Lopez had used a kitchen knife to slash him across the back. Officers noticed a 12- to 14-inch cut on his shoulder blades, as well as bite marks to his chest and an injury to his eye.

The knife was located in the street, the complaint states.

He said Lopez had come over to pick up a child the couple had together. He said she is mad that he is still married to a woman living in Mexico and that she attacked him while he was sleeping.

The boyfriend fled while Lopez allegedly yelled, “I’m going to kill you,” the complaint states. She then allegedly smashed his car with a baseball bat, before later biting him in the chest and punching him in the eye.

On Sunday, Lopez called police and said the boyfriend had instigated the fight by calling her vulgar names and pulling her hair. She also said he slammed her arm in a door. Officers documented bruising to her forearm, according to the complaint.

Lopez did however admit to using the knife to attack her boyfriend, the complaint states.

She is in custody and scheduled for arraignment Oct. 29.

Still married to a woman in Mexico? I'm sure he's a legal citizen.

So, let me get this straight... She attacked him in his sleep... Slashed his back with a knife... Smashed out his truck windows... then he left, but CAME BACK... and then she bit him in the chest and punched him in the eye...

here's a tip for ya- when she comes at you with a knife... keep running, and don't come back...

Unfortunately, like many other derelict police departments, the Austin Police don't enforce immigration laws so there would be no check on his or her legal status. It is a shame that police departments can pick and choose which laws to enforce. Maybe we need a new police chief who has Austin's best interests in mind.
