Austin resident bought S.S. card for $1,000 to find work
Published Tuesday, October 13, 2009
An Austin woman was charged Friday with felony forgery for allegedly using a San Antonio woman’s name to gain employment.
Salma Livier Hernandez, 19, faces two counts of aggravated forgery. She is in custody on $50,000 bail, or $5,000 with court conditions, and is scheduled for arraignment Oct. 22.
According to a court complaint, a 35-year-old Austin woman notified authorities that she believed Hernandez was using a false name to work and obtain welfare benefits.
She said Hernandez went by “Nichol Hernandez” or “Natalie Hernandez” and that she worked at the Austin Packaging Company.
The APC personnel department confirmed that a “Natalie Nichol Hernandez” worked third shifts at the factory.
Authorities searched Natalie Hernandez’s Social Security number and learned that she had lived in San Antonio the past three years.
They also matched a photo from Salma Hernandez’s fraudulent Minnesota ID with an old school photo to confirm that it was her, the complaint states.
On Thursday, Salma Hernandez was interviewed at work.
She admitted that she used an alias and was not a citizen.
She said she had purchased a Social Security card for $1,000 and used the alias because she needed to find work.

Quit spending our tax money on these illegals to keep them housed and fed in the jails! Get a bus and get them out of here! I would rather spend my money on more border patrols!

People just need to keep saying to themselves" AUSTIN DOES NOT HAVE A PROBLEM WITH ILLEGALS" enough times to really believe it.
Someone needs to wake up the liberals that think this is acceptable and that they have rights as Americans. They have no rights, they are criminals and deport them.

Another local job lost to illegals. If any American needs a job, look to farther than APC, QPP, or Hormel to find out why you are unemployed.

. . . or you could actually apply for a job yourself and quit sitting at home feeling sorry for yourself and put upon by people who are actually willing to work for their money.

kratos I wasn't going to post again because I get tared and featherd every time I say it is wrong for anyone to be here illegally. Period! No excuses! BUT your stupid statement beats all I ever heard! "People who are actually willing to work?" Illegal - dishonest - scheming - connvinig - felons willing to work!! For what money? Dishonest money! Stolen money! Illegal money! Unlawful money! kratos - it's amazing how you continue to defend law breaking - dishonest - illegal people! Absolutely amazing!! You don't condone lawlessness unless you have no moral compass at all!

I second that. Well said Kratos.

Kratos I work 3 jobs getting roughly 42 hours a week, since all 3 jobs are part time, I have no health benefits, I make too much money to get any assistance for health care, I would love to have a full time job at either QPP or any other factory that offers health insurance, oh but I cannot get one there since the illegals have filled all the jobs. Maybe you should think before you type I understand there are people out there that don't want to work but I think there are more people that DO want to but are unable to find a job since there are so many illegals taking then away. If they come here legally I have no problem "sharing" the jobs that are available but to have them taken away by someone who has lied, stolen, and cheated their way into them, has got to stop. Liars, cheaters, and thieves don't rank highly on my sympathy list. Sorry.

I applaud you! I second your statements!! :)

what kratos doeasnt understand is the big companies would rather hire illegals since they cant speak much english when it comes contract time. they dont put up much of a fuss when they only get .30 over 4 years or whatever it was. but it was far below the cost of living. seventy one... you are a hero to many. purple heart i got your back anytime.

71 - I can't remember a time when QPP wasn't taking applications. And you should be elegible for MN Care, but you would need to pay the premium which is income/asset based. So if you don't qualify for MN Care, you must own your home or have a lot of savings. But then, you could support Obama's healthcare plan that has plans for those smaller employers that can't afford insurance for their employees. And please don't put me in with the A_K ideology, I don't agreee with her on anything - EVER!! And Rhino - death penalty??? a little severe don't you think?

Formeraustinian, thanks for the help but I live just across the Ia border so Mn Care don't help. I have put applications in at QPP and nothing, it might be since I have a degree in something totally unrelated to production work, but I am not above doing it or any other job for that matter.

People all you have to do is get off the couch and apply, so stop being lazy and blaming other people. And dont blame the down of the economy on hispanic's again. you all already did once in the great depression and took their land away which is arizona, new mexico, california.and Remember this is INDIAN LAND. i dont see them saying anything.

Your main problem is that you are most likely not a minority, otherwise you would probably be hired. Minorities get extra points in being hired and the company looks like a good company if they hire minorities...even some that happen to be illegals. I remember many years ago I applied for a job at the U.S. Post Office. I took an exam did fine but was not hired...had two years college at the time. I know of many Asians who were hired, had no college. Now I'm glad I didn't get the job as I finished college, got a much better job and am now retired. The point is that in some areas of employment, you have a hard time being hired, unless you are a minority. That's been going on in the government for years....anyone that works there knows it. Former-Fed. No slander...just the facts!

M1985 if your comment is directed at me I think you also should think before you type, you don't know me or know what I do. I will give you a generalized rundown though, if I am not working I am with my daughter, going to football games, showing school spirit if you will, I am a first responder, and I volunteer at the Humane Soc., yes I scoop dog poop every other weekend. Am I better than anyone else??? No, never said I was. Am I lazy?? No, not even close. Am I sick of people lying, stealing, and cheating?? Yes! I will admit it. What makes it ok for the illegals to steal someones identity when it is not ok to steal someones material possesions?? They are trying to make life easier for themselves and their families, I am good with that, but there are certain steps that need to be followed. If I want something I put in a HONEST days work. I don't lie or steal to get it. Why is it ok for some and not for others??

Pay no mind to Kratos, nobody else does. I bet if she had her I.D. or Social number stolen she'd be singing a different tune. Anyone who condones people coming here illegally, stealing another persons identity for their own personal gain and not paying the taxes on the money they earned can't be all to bright.

alexsmom.......Thats good overtime.Like that you wont be saying i'm running low on money and blaming obama for it.
seventyone......What im saying is its not okay, but dont judge one side, without judging the other. Many americans want the easy money so they sale their papers for money.I knew of a couple who sold their papers for $4,500 each. when the hispanic's got cought couple of years later they said they were stolen. many get away with it like that. they should both be penalized.
But we need a better system to assign visa's and move the process faster.

What does one do when a family of rats moves in your home? Do you feed them and give them medical attention?
Do you build parks and keep them warm in the winter?
If you do what happens to your home that you have worked so hard for?

You people are pretty funny. "Oh woe is me I can't get a decent job because an illegal took it." "Look at Hormel and QPP for why you are unemployed." It is crap like this that sparked my comment about actually applying for a job instead of sitting at home complaining about what someone else is doing. If you cannot compete with a non-English speaking, uneducated, unskilled, illegal immigrant for a job, there is likely more wrong with you than the immigrant. Look inside and see why you are working crappy part time jobs or not working at all. Ever decent and self-respecting person who wants work in this area can find work (not counting the disabled or the felons - both of which are hard to place).
Instead of thinking about the illegals taking your job - perhaps you could think about that the job likely wouldn't get done if they weren't here.
With all that said, I still find it funny that some here suggest that my position is a defense of illegals or a defense of ID theft. Such simple thinking is why people don't listen to such comments - they don't make any sense.
My comment was very targeted and remains cutting. People who blame others for their misfortune when they themselves are to blame are a joke.
One of the major problems with our society today is a complete collapse of our own culture. Hard work and sacrifice has been totally eclipsed with entitlement mentality and whining. With all the talk about the deterioration of our community and the direction of our country - try a little mirror gazing and you will find that much of that started way before our friends from south of our border arrived.

Kratos.
It has been a long time since I have posted, but I need to make a comment regarding your comment regarding people who blame others for their misfortune. Well Kratos, what do you say to an employer who ships a family's livlihood overseas so that the people at the top, who already get most of the money can get more money? Is that the worker's fault for having worked their _ _ _ off for a company for 20+ years, working plenty of overtime and being away from family during that time? How about the union worker who spent most of his life working his tail off only to find out that the company has to cut his hours, benefits or even his job, because again the people at the top who already have more than enough need even more. So, then in order to get workers, the companies depend on illegal aliens to fill the positions...now that we are in a recession their acts of their hiring practices are obvious. Tell me Kratos do you have a clue what has happened to this country? Now we have illegals who are occupying positions that legal citizens have a legal right to, and the illegals DO NOT! So Kratos don't even sit on your almighty high horse and begin to tell the rest of us that we don't have a right to voice our opinions! If people are whining its because they have a legitimate gripe. This is written by a hardworking person who sees illegals getting free dental benefits when I can't get dental benefits from a place that I have worked for many years...so you know what, I'm going to whine and I'm not going to feel bad about whining! So deal with it!

Good jobs are being lost everyday. After 15 years my company was bought out and I lost mine and had to move. After age 50 it is really hard to get back in the job hunting market again. Companies want younger people that will stay for 20 years or more to train them in. I have no beef with people wanting to better their lives, BUT, no one should be allowed to sneak into the US and stay here, have a large family (who are all citizens) and are now paid for by the taxpayer. If you want to live here, get a sponser, a job, learn ENGLISH, and become a citizen. My grandparents came from Sweden--had a sponser, went through customs in New York-were stripped and checked for deseases and had to pay something like $200. which would be like $50,000 today just to enter the US. The proudest day in their life was when they became US citizens and they proudly hung their papers on the livingroom wall. They immediately learned English, no free night school for them and they each worked and raised a family with no welfare. This is the American dream, to be a citizen and work hard to make this a better nation--today it is all give me, give me.
