Chamber to honor trade show owner
Published Friday, October 9, 2009
The Austin Area Chamber of Commerce is honoring Jack Thill of Tradexpos, Inc. with their 2009 Lifetime Achievement Award Wednesday.
“The award goes to someone that is successful in business and involved with the community,” Sandy Forstner, executive director of the Chamber of Commerce, said.
Thill, of Rose Creek, has operated his trade show business, 811 W. Oakland Ave., in Austin since 1981.
“I appreciate receiving this award,” Thill, a longtime member of the Chamber, said.
His business puts on large scale farm shows nationwide, and in the past has done other types of trade shows, hesaid.
Thill is also involved in the Austin Rotary Club and other civic affairs.
He has served three terms as mayor of Rose Creek.
The Chamber is presenting the award to Thill Wednesday at their fall meeting and luncheon.
They have given the award out annually since 2002.
The recipient is chosen by the Chamber’s Board of Directors and must have been in business for more than 20 years, Forstner said.
The award recognizes their contribution to the local economy and community.
“Of course I am happy but I don’t know that I deserve it,” Thill said.
“I am what I am,” he added.
At the fall meeting Wednesday the following directors will also be elected to the board: Dick McIntosh, Marlene Blaser, Mel Gilbertson, Tom Sherman, Sam Ewing, Kim Pelzel, Gail Dennison and Barry Irish.
