Fox found in building

Published Friday, November 20, 2009

A fox found inside an empty building at a southwest Austin floral shop was shot and killed Thursday.

No one was injured by the animal.

The fox was found at Johnson Floral on 400 31st St. SW and reported to authorities at around 10 a.m., according to a police report.

A police officer and a community service officer attempted to catch or trap the animal, which was growling, but were unsuccessful.

The poice department should invest in a tranquilizer gun for many reasons. Maybe veterinary assistance should have been considered prior to shooting the fox? Let's try and use some common sense!

Lol.......... People must think it was a family pet. Let's waste more money, buy a tranquilizer gun so fido the fox can live. Or a .50 cent solution. What's more cost effective?

Ethics johnypopper1 ethics. Hunting them is one thing, atleast they have a sporting chance to run away. cornered in a building, when if they would have backed off it would have left eventualy. Oh and it would have cost nothing. Whats more cost effective?

I would have to agree with Rhino. My opinion is, the officer said it "growled" at them just so he/she could shoot it. If I was sandwiched between a wall and two people with gun in one hand and donut in the other, I'd growl too. I think he/she was just bored and wanted some target practice. You know where the range is officer, dont make up excuses just to draw your weapon. Dont get me wrong, I do hunt, but I dont corner animals to kill it. What you (officer) did was unethical. I dont beleive your life was in danger. I sometimes wonder where the department gets these people from and where and if they even went to school for law enforcment. But you know, thats just my opinion.

Should they buy special nets to humanly capture bats which usually will not leave a house once inside? I had one in my house for two days and left the door open for a few hours each day thinking it would leave. Guess what, got another bat in my friggen house. Different analogy but I could not get it in a fish net either cuz the little bugger kept flying around. So I caught them both with my tennis racket. Hahahaha. Sometimes it does not work to do things the "humane" way.

From the article it looks like they tried doing what they could with what they had. There obviously no tranquilizer gun available, wouldn't go in a cage and the owner wanted it gone. Big whoop, its a fox. Sounds like the tax paying owner got their monies worth and the fox is no longer there like they wanted. .

And yes Rhino, if it would have left it would be more cost effective. Ethics........ Again, the owner wanted it gone, available means sounds like was attempted and last resort to get it gone was done.

As far as schooling silent warrior, not sure but I do believe they have to have minimum two year degree and then licensed through the state. Again not sure so don't quote me there.

And as far as this article goes....... I would have to agree with Chiodos. But hey it makes for good debate!

I am not sure why this has not made national news yet...

Oh for Christ's sake. I am so sick of the Austin animal control and cops just gunning down any animal that gives them trouble. How do these _ssholes sleep at night? I could have gone down there, set a live trap and come back an hr later with the fox alive, released it out in the countryside. This is so ridiculous.

PETA won't be happy with the police.

Sounds like the officer(s) used what they had available to them. It wouldn't get in the cage and wouldn't leave the building. So the tax paying business owner wanted it gone. If he or she would have told the officer(s) that she didn't want it shot my guess is that they would have left wishing the business owner luck. So who are we blaming and for what? It was a fox. If the business owner wanted it gone and not shot, he or she should have said so. Guess the cops in this town are darned if they do and darned if they don't. Ah well. Sounds like the tax paying citizen got what they wanted to me.

As far as their education, I think they have to go to school then be licensed by the state as far as I gather after a little research. Correct me if I'm wrong silentwater.

And yes Rhino, leaving the place open for the fox to leave on its own free will would be more cost effective.......ahem*

But then again, why didn't the business owner do that instead of the local police being called to take care of the issue.

Did anybody think that possibly the fox was rabid. Please think it out b-4 you react so quickly. Gee, I can hardly wait for another article to come out so I can laugh at all the comments.

Izone, you need to become more educated on rabies. NOT COMMON at all, yes, fox are a prime host of rabies, but the disease itself is stunningly rare.

The Austin Keystone Kops at their best, kill the fox, ask no questions just shoot. Had it been a person who was having a seizure and fell into the officer; tase them first, since the person is still resisting arrest, squirt them with mace. Now the person is spiting out the chemicals from their mouth. It is time to charge them with felony resisting arrest and spiting on a police officer. It is an unlucky person who has a seizure in Austin, or just a normal person who says no to the Keystone Kops.

And she was a "fox" indeed, she had brown hair, luscious lips, and a black girl's ass. we got it on in the south greenhouse and was the best i ever had...

Posted by standingby (anonymous) on November 23, 2009 at 11:01 a.m. (Suggest removal)

izone, rabid animals will foam at the mouth, growl, and likely charge or attack anything in its way. Plz educate yourself b-4 initiating an un educated comment as you did! Until then, have a great day!
