Austin resident faces pair of forgery charges

Published Thursday, November 12, 2009

After being found wandering around southwest Austin drunk Sunday, a 24-year-old Austin man now faces felony forgery charges.

Olaf Ulises Pacheco-Vasquez was charged Tuesday with one count of aggravated forgery and one count of simple forgery.

He awaits arraignment Nov. 19.

According to a criminal complaint, officers were dispatched Sunday morning to 816 Ninth Ave. SW regarding a man who had been lying in the road and then slumped over a backyard fence.

When police arrived, a witness said the man had entered a residence at 901 Eighth Ave. SW minutes earlier.

Officers approached the house and saw Pacheco-Vasquez being kicked out by the 65-year-old male homeowner.

He said Pacheco-Vasquez had pounded on his door and that his granddaughter had let him in.

Pacheco-Vasquez was extremely intoxicated, the complaint states, and told officers that he was “Benito Lopez.”

However, he also had three forms of Mexican identification on him in his given name.

Officers checked the Minnesota Driver and Vehicle Services database and saw that the defendant is registered as “Benito Garcia Lopez Jr.”

Pacheco-Vasquez is in Mower County custody on $50,000 bail, or $10,000 if he meets certain court conditions.

Have we read similar stories like this before? Seems like this is the most repeated news story in the Herald. Do you suppose we have a problem here?

Was he wearing a poncho at the time? I know someone who did something like that. Too funny.

They would be just fine if they would stay away from
the alcohol. There's nothing worse than a Mexican with
a drinking problem. I am talking from experience.
My problem is back in Mexico.

Austin ought to qualify as a regional office location for the ICE guys. There's enough business here to keep a few dozen immigration sleuths busy full time. QPP and Hormel guarantee a continuous supply of illegals that would keep the office going indefinitely. They may even hire a few Americans in Austin.... maybe they could hire the welfare case workers that are laid off when the illegal Mexicans are deported.
