Waltham’s Eugene Anderson to host Breakfast on the Farm
Published Thursday, May 21, 2009
WALTHAM Anyone who has spent any time in rural Minnesota can tell you that a farm is a busy place. From corn to cattle, soybeans to sows, there is a lot going on in the farmland of America.
There is a lot more going on than most people see. The Mower County Farm Bureau, along with many local agriculture-related organizations, will be sharing a look at all the work that goes into the agricultural industry with a Breakfast on the Farm.
The fourth annual Breakfast on the Farm will be held at the farm of Eugene Anderson, 30111 620th Ave., in rural Waltham on May 30.
From 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. the breakfast will be served by Christ Cakes, and educational and interactive displays will be available to show visitors what’s going on down on the farm. There will be activities for children and farm animals for them to meet.
Organizers are trying to appeal to families with children, but say that everyone would enjoy themselves.

The Eugene Anderson dairy farm, south of Sargeant, will be the site of this year's Breakfast on the Farm, the second time in four years Anderson has hosted the event.
“It’s for everyone,” Eugene Anderson said. “The main reason they do this is to educate.”
Mower County Farm Bureau President Ron Frank said the goal of this program is to show people all the work that goes into the agriculture industry.
“It’s to give people a perspective as to what goes on out here,” he said.
Breakfast on the Farm in Mower County has been successful the past four years, seeing between 300 to 500 visitors at each event. Frank said each year the planning process is more streamline, and the attendance goes up. He has been involved in all four years of the program.
“It’s been really successful,” Frank said. “Everyone is pleased with the results.
Planning for Breakfast on the Farm begins in January, but looking for a family to host the event is a year-round job.
“It takes a substantial commitment to put on,” Frank said.
Organizations such as the Mower County 4-H, Mower County Cattlemen, the Hayfield American Legion, six different FFA chapters and other local agricultural groups work along side the Mower County Farm Bureau, and all contribute to the event.
This will be the second year that the event will be held Anderson’s dairy farm. Lynn and Jane Sathre of Adams and Roger and Lori Read of Lyle have hosted the event in the past. The cost is $3 per person or $12 for families. A free shuttle to the farm will be leaving from the Hy-Vee in Austin at 8 a.m.
The Mower County Farm Bureau is a chapter of the Minnesota Farm Bureau and national American Farm Bureau Federation. The 90-year-old organization promotes agricultural education and other agricultural issues.
