House fire, graffiti reported in Waltham

— The Brownsdale Fire Department responded to a house fire in rural Waltham Monday.

Firefighters were called to the home of Robert Minto, 62 at 57595 300th St. at around 2 p.m. According to the Mower County Sheriff’s Department, Minto was home watching TV when he heard a loud pop and then lost electricity.

Minto went down into the basement and found the electrical box on fire. He then called 911.

Minto escaped uninjured. There was minor smoke damage to the house.

Waltham Post Office vandalized

The Mower County Sheriff’s Department responded to a report of property damage to the Waltham Post Office Monday.

According to reports, the Post Master notified authorities when large amounts of graffiti spray-painted on the building were discovered.

A majority of the graffiti was on the south side of the building and included several obscenities along with the phrases: “Kids do drugs,” “MMK?” and “420.” Another obscenity was found on the east door of the building.

The case is still under investigation.
