“No way, “No” and no comment.

That was the reaction to a poll of local liquor stores about Sunday liquor sales.

State Rep. Tom Anzelc (DFL-District 03A), Aitkin County, introduced the legislation.

Anzelc’s House File No. 156 was introduced Jan. 14.

It calls for allowing Sunday liquor sales and dedicating tax receipts to county social services for children.

Consumption of liquor on the liquor store premises would be prohibited, according to the bill.

All holders of on-sale liquor licenses would be allowed to sell liquor between the hours of 10 a.m. Sunday and 2 a.m. Monday. The license to sell Sunday liquor would cost $200 and not require voter approval.

Dave Olson, owner of Apollo Liquor and Superette, said he was not interested in Sunday liquor sales.

“Monday through Saturday is enough time to sell liquor,” Olson said.

Peggy Struthers, manager of Beer Depot, said, “No way” to the proposal.

“Why be open another day to sell liquor?” Struthers said. “We need a day off.”

A clerk at Bell Liquor had no comment.
