Schroeder and Evjen take fourth at state wrestling meet; Hirsch takes fifth

Hayfield's Mark Evjen goes up against Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale's Jake Braaten on Saturday at the Xcel Energy Center during the 152 pound third place match. Evjen lost to Braaten.
Two area wrestlers finished their careers with fourth place finishes at the Class ‘A’ Minnesota State wrestling meet Saturday at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.
Southland senior Matt Schroeder lost a 4-3 decision to Jessie Regaldo (32-9 overall) of Jackson County Central in the 130-pound third place match.
Schroeder finishes his season with a record of 41-2 overall.
Hayfield senior Mark Evjen also came up short in a third place match as he was beaten by Jake Braaten (37-5 overall) of Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale on a 10-5 decision.
Evjen, a 152-pounder, finishes the season with a 32-11 record.
In class ‘AAA’ Austin’s Michael Hirsch beat St. Cloud Apollo’s Matt Spoden (41-7 overall) to take fifth place. Hirsch, a junior 189-pounder, finishes his season with a 38-5 record.
