Allocation from stimulus to help APD
Published Saturday, March 7, 2009
Congressman Tim Walz announced Friday that the economic recovery package Congress passed last month will provide $482,000 in funding allocations for southern Minnesota law enforcement and criminal justice assistance, available through the Edward Byrne Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program. More than $29 million is coming to Minnesota to help local communities through this economic crisis.
“This funding will help cities like Austin and Worthington keep their neighborhoods safe with new video cameras and faster computers for patrol cars,” Walz said. “By making sure our local law enforcement agencies have the necessary tools to keep us and our children safe, we are laying the foundation for healthy communities for generations to come.”
JAG Program funds can be used for a variety of efforts such as hiring law enforcement officers, supporting drug and gang task forces, funding crime prevention and domestic violence programs, and supporting courts, corrections, treatment and justice information sharing initiatives.
“These funds are a vital component in our effort to not just revive our economy, but to build a new foundation for lasting prosperity and security,” President Barack Obama said. “By keeping police officers on the streets whose jobs were threatened by budget cuts and ensuring states and municipalities have the tools and equipment necessary to fight crime, this money will simultaneously help jumpstart the American economy and protect our citizens.”
The procedure for allocating JAG grants is based on a formula of population and violent crime statistics, in combination with a minimum allocation to ensure that each state and territory receives an appropriate share of funding. Sixty percent of the allocation is awarded directly to a state and 40 percent is set aside for units of local governments.

How in the world is our tax dollars we dont have being spent for faster computers for cop cars going to help stimulate the economy?
This is socialism, way to to go 51% of the voters.

Can these funds be used for the "explorer" program? Who decides how the funds are allocated? How much of these funds go to Austin? Are the current squad cars already equipped with cameras and computers?

ruserious - yeah, great idea, when Austin is suffering from prostitution, stabbings, murders, fires, etc... let's use the funds for the explorer program!! GREAT IDEA!!!

petakills, it was more than 51%......you must have preferred the policies of the last 8 years, don't even try to suggest that the old regime didn't engage in ridiculous antics...
Think of what would be involved in the process of getting faster computers in the squad cars, (by the way I'm not suggesting they need them) you might be surprised, and don't give an answer suggesting that you would be able to do it all on your own.
I agree, the explorer program would benefit from funding.

For one thing it was nice having a President that prayed in the oval office instead of having oral sex and cigar magic tricks with a 21 year old intern.

Actually Obayme got 52.1% of the popular vote, so sorry.
Leftthehatebehind you sure have quite a bit of hate left.
Why don't you keep your immature comments for your circle of welfare friends.

Ok, petkills, don't forget the wonderful corporate welfare your republican friends are receiving.

Here is something that should be of great interest for you to pass around. I didn't know of this until it was pointed out to me.
Back during The Great Depression, President Herbert Hoover ordered the deportation of ALL illegal aliens in order to make jobs available to American citizens that desperately needed work.
Harry Truman deported over two million Illegal's after WWII to create
jobs for returning veterans. And then again in 1954, President Dwight Eisenhower deported 13 million Mexican nationals! The program was called 'Operation Wetback' so that American WWII and Korean veterans had a better chance at jobs. It took 2 years, but they deported them!
Now, if they could deport the illegals back then, they can sure do it today!! lf you have doubts about the veracity of this information, enter Operation Wetback into your favorite search engine and confirm it for yourself.
Reminder. Don't forget to pay your taxes...12 million Illegal Aliens are depending on you!

petakillsanimals - you are dead on... keep up the good work!
Apparently to the slow people - if GW Bush gets 50.1% of the vote and Barack bin Obama gets 52.1% that equates to a "mandate" for socialism. This doling out of money to ineffectual programs is insane.

IJ , oh my wise friend we haven't seen nothing yet! The left is just getting geared up for the "change we can believe in"

IJ and petakills both are apparently oblivious to the notion that the republicans were on watch when the economy fell apart. Their plan....cut taxes, that's it....it sure worked over the last 8 years (quite well for the wealthy). Stop your griping and let some fresh tactics play out. The republicans took a good chunk of 8 years to make this fine mess, now you expect the new tactis to work in less than 50 days? Give me a break. By the way petakills, you still have your percentage wrong with the election results, I'll give you some time to look at a non-partisan site to get more accurate numbers. There is a mandate to avoid the last 8 years.
So let me get this straight, if you pray in the Oval Office you are a leader with a great vision?
I find it interesting how so many staunch republicans are paranoid. It's part of the base belief system I guess.

Brainranger--
Pretty sure the economy didn't start "falling apart" until around 2006. Weirdly, the economy remained strong even after 9/11 but coincidentally started going south when the dems took control of the congress.

brainranger is apparently oblivious to the notion that the DFL had total control of the House and Senate when the economy fell apart. Also recessions are normal to correct and purge different areas of the system. We always come out of them with great growth a 4 year average. That is unless the nonproducers (DFL) don't tax the producers (RNC) into the ground like Ohbayme's 40%.
And yes I would think that a President would get better "vision" by praying vs molesting someones daughter.
And as always when I speak of this to my friends on the left they always say that wasn't sex and I respond by asking if they have a daughter that I could spend sometime with then.
