Grand Meadow, Lyle ready for festivals

Published Thursday, June 25, 2009

It’s a busy summer weekend for Mower County.

Both Grand Meadow and Lyle host their hometown festivals Friday through Sunday.

Grand Meadow Fest kicks off Friday with bingo at 5:30 p.m. and track and field night at 6 p.m. Live music by the Misfit Toys plays from 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. in the surrounds of a beer garden.

Saturday’s events include everything from a 3-on-3 basketball tournament, a new for 2009 car show from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Horizon parking lot on Highway 16 and the popular parade at 2 p.m.

“It’s usually a good parade, so I enjoy that most of all,” said Jeanette Ludemann, assistant to the Grand Meadow city clerk.

“And the church service on Sunday is always special.”

Saturday night wraps up with live music by King Shindig from 8:30 p.m. to 12:45 a.m., while the ecumenical church service begins on Sunday at 10 a.m. at the Grand Meadow Church lawn.

In Lyle, the town’s Independence Celebration begins Friday with dinner from 5 to 9 p.m., a been bag tournament at 7 p.m. and music by MJ Sounds DJ from 8 p.m. to midnight.

Saturday’s events include everything from a truck and tractor pull, a classic car show and the street dance, with the music of Rocket Dawgs playing at the legion at 8 p.m.

The festival wraps up Sunday with a church service in the park at 10 a.m., an antique tractor and machinery show all day and mud bog races.
