Services provide a nice option for graduates

Published Tuesday, June 2, 2009

It’s a time for caps and gowns, pomp and circumstance, and for our graduates to say goodbye to the past and hello to the future.

Graduation season is well underway and with it also brings the tradition of the baccalaureate service. On May 17, a baccalaureate service was held for Southland High seniors. Blooming Prairie students had theirs last week, while the 14th annual Community Baccalaureate service, sponsored by the Mower County Ministerial Association, will be held tonight in Austin at the Paramount Theatre.

Churches are an important part of any city or township because they give residents the option to be active in a congregation within the community.

Baccalaureate services give our graduates a chance to attend a prayer service for those who wish to do so, a chance to share in fellowship and a chance to listen to music and hear motivational speakers.

These services have a rich tradition during this time of year, one that appears to be alive and well in Austin and its surrounding communities.

We hope they continue for decades to come.
