I dont get why there cant be a middle ground here. Obviously the Nazi stuff is just rediculous. These skinheads aren't protesting about illegal immgration, they are still hung up on Hitler for some idiotic reason.

On the flip side you have the other protesters saying its bad to deport "workers". Bear in mind they are workers illegally here in the country.

Why can't we stand firm that we want to uphold the laws and deport whoever is here without proper paperwork whether it be latino, asian, sweed, canadian...whatever.

I am confused as to why people would involve their children in this debate!? We need to teach children to treat others how we want to be treated. Not to discriminate agaisnt others. I feel bad for kids on both sides. The adults choose to get together and rally, these kids will utimately end up in school together.

Saturday was likely more about getting Nazi's out of town than it was about immigration. Having Nazi's leading this debate only paints the immigration with the negative image churned up with quotes like "Hilter is not dead he's alive in our hearts" and other such gems.

I was glad to see that it was about 5 or 6 to 1 - Nazi to non-Nazi at the event.

Doufish2 - your stats are off by quite a large margin. Most of our crime is not latino/hispanic surnames. We have an excellent crop of good ol' white boy criminals here that are holding up your end of the gene pool.

Such a radical stance on this issue scares people away from the real problem. Something needs to be done quickly about immigration but I do not want to hear about it (or anything else for that matter) from neo-nazis and other people who just spread hate. Alethia, I am not saying that the Nazi issue here is right or wrong. I personally don't think it belongs anywhere. Hitler was and is history.
But with that being said, read the crime reports in Austin. I read them every day on-line, old boys cause trouble too, and I will admit I was one of them 30 yrs ago. But with that being said, there is an immigration problem in this country and everyone knows it. I have no issue with anyone, as long as they are in this country legally and obey the laws. Go thru and read the names articles involving crime in Austin. Forgery, drug, assaults , what names do you see? Smith, Johnson, Anderson? It makes no difference, we need to make immigration a priority before we become a minority in our own country.

Nobody wants to hear from me...especially A_K…(yes I am back to haunt you)…but here goes anyhow. As I filmed this entire weekends events as an independent film maker that has worked with many large reputable companies…I found it funny that I was at one point advised by the Faribault, MN police the night before the main rally in Austin that I could be sent to jail. Hmm? I was interviewing a Hispanic women who had approached me and claimed she was illegal , and the police officer standing behind her would do nothing. When I swung the camera in his direction for a statement on what she just claimed, he advised that if I pointed my camera at the him one more time I could go to jail. As she left and proceeded to drive herself away, she stopped, looked at the two officers as well as I, and said “I have no license either…and no one will do anything about it.” Now to me that last part sounds like an admission of guilt to breaking a MN state statute…but both officers simply went on with their private conversation.

I learned much being in the area this past weekend. I learned that private citizens of any color are often afraid to speak out against the immigration problems…most in fear of retribution. Those that would speak with me had plenty to say on the many problems their quaint little city faces. I truly have to say I loved the Memorial itself where the protests took place…very nice indeed…congrats for that Austin! I am one that would suggest however for travelers to watch the prices at the local motels when you get to Austin. I have paid more but cannot remember when. Plain language is…I probably pumped more funding into your little community in 3 days and 2 nights while in Austin, than 10 illegal immigrants do in one month.

There are two people in Austin who can diffuse the debate over illegals in Austin. They are the CEO's of Hormel and QPP. When they stop hiring illegal aliens, the problem will, for the most part, go away. These tow people are responsible for the problems in Austin wrt illegal immigration and yet are not being called on to clean it up. The Austin police department is also complicit in not reporting ALL cases of illegal immigration that they encounter to ICE. When will the city leaders take responsibility for what is happening to Austin?

That means nothing, in fact, it's no different than Sam Johnson's message--Mexicans = Illegal/Dangerous/Criminals. People of ALL ethnic groups commit crimes (Sam Johnson is no Saint). Unfortunately, these things happen everywhere, not just at Lil' Ol' Austin, MN Home of Spam! Of course there are problems that arise when people move around the planet; I don't deny that, but immigrants commit fewer crimes than NATIVE-BORN Americans.

It may be unfair to describe the Austin Police as complicit in or ignoring issues involving illegal aliens in our community. Their jobs have been made more difficult, having to serve an increasingly non English-speaking population. The local police do not have the ability to deport illegals. Our courts also are limited in their ability to address the issue.

ICE is underfunded and understaffed, and it's doubtful the current administration will take significant action. So, we are left to make the best of it. If we all take care of our own affairs, and treat our neighbors kindly, we'll all sleep better at night and Austin will be fine.

I just would like to know why there are children at these protests?!?! Neither side is any better about that. Children should be left out of this all together. It's ridiculous that they are there and pictures of them are on here. It's also sad they have to grow up with this kind of crap going on. It's great that there hasn't been anything too escalating at these protests but what if something were to happen (which I hope never happens) and children are caught in the middle. Bottom line is every and anyone has a right to be in this country...as long as they are here legally. I don't care what race you are. If you are here legally and can speak English, then welcome. If not, do what you need to do to be that way and then welcome. Race has nothing to do with crimes. It is the people that commit them, not a person's race. Excellent point - NotSurprised. As I have posted before, there are two issues. The issue of immigration was a healthy public debate going back years and we have seen some advancements.

The issue of Nazis coming to our community to spread their white power lunacy is a new issue that has required a more immediate response.

I too was pleased to see that the Nazis were shouted down and could barely be heard by those telling them to "Go Home". We may have our differences but we seem pretty united on the idea that there is no room in our community for hateful Hitler worshipers.

There is no place in America, in this day and age for the Nazi agenda. This is an immigration issue, not mass murder anihilation of a race issue.
Hormel and QPP need to take reponsibility and check identifications thouroughly, not just look at a licence, birth certificate or green card. They need to have a full time investigation staff. If the get caught with an illegal, fine the hell out of them.

The point is that if you approach an issue like immigration declaring first that you are a racist and a bigot, then you sort of loose some credibility and the message about immigration takes on a sinister and evil cloak that obscures the debate.

Further, the point of most here is that they do not approve of the purpose and ideology behind NSM and do not want any of that nonsense brought here by the likes of you or Mr. Johnson.

I have never once suggested two sets of laws. You are the separatist. If you misunderstood a post I made identify it and it will try to dumb it down for you. I love the Constitution and have given more respect than your ideology will ever allow you to give it. I have spent time studying stats on crime and yours are made up. I read the paper - but more importantly I understand what I read and I read more than one source and I apply critical thinking. I know that is all really hard so I don't expect you to keep up. After all we can all only rise to the level of our abilities.

You were not standing tall for your country. If you were you would have needed a different flag. You were standing tall for an ideology that segregates people and treats them differently because of their skin color. That is not America. That is sick and evil. Your demeaning views of blacks, browns and others is not America. Why your soul and mind are so filled with hate and darkness is unknown to me, but I pity you. Your life must be so sad and empty.

For me, I enjoy the company of people of all races. After all we are all the same. We all have the same hopes and dreams. We all have the same gifts to offer the world. We all experience the same joys and sadness.

Try making some friends who are darker skinned than you. You will discover that everything you thought you knew about race is a lie. Maybe then you will find the richness of life spent in the light of day.

Or continue to live under your rock imagining that everyone thinks like you do and that you hold power. That solitude of ignorance and darkness is comforting at first, but it must take a great deal of energy to keep the truth from reaching your eyes and ears - not to mention your mind and heart. Without that truth you view yourself as important but to the rest of the world looking down under your rock you look small and pathetic.

The neo-nazis of the Austin area are poor uneducated fools. That is a real shame because we have the resources in Austin to educate people. Sam Johnson is also a hypocrite. He complains about Mexicans sponging off the economy while they supply a huge amount, maybe most of the labor for Austin's industry and yet Mr. Johnson is morbidly overweight and buys his food with food stamps (saw him paying at Kwik Trip.) Not that he is bad because he is poor, but what poor neo-Nazis like Mr. Johnson and his friends from the rally don't seem to realize is that migrant workers and native workers are in the same exact situation of selling their labor in order to survive. Also, that they themselves (neo-nazis) are the children of migrant workers.

WhitesOnly; Go ahead and call yourself "white nationalist" if you want to sound less evil, but that is a pretty dumb strategy. Also don't forget that you were at a Nazi rally, so you associate with Nazis, agree with them, do your political work with them, but noooo, you're a "white nationalist." If you truly believe that all races are equal/not superior/inferior to one another, then why do they need to be separate? Probably because your emphasis on valuing the "white nation" (which has never historically existed, by the way: it is an neo-nazi invention/myth) is racist and you see it as superior in some way. But you're not racially superior, and there is no white nation... good luck trying to get "white people" from all over the world, "white people" from every religion, "white people" who speak a ton of different languages and come from a ton of different countries to agree with you and identify with your "nation" just because of some arbitrarily defined pseudo-scientific racial classification. So in short, get over yourself.
