The Hayfield boys basketball came up a little short in a 68-66 loss at Waterville/Elysian/Morristown Monday.

The Vikings trailed by as many as 18 in the first half but battled back to take a 64-61 lead when Kody Kramer hit a three-pointer with one minute left in the contest.

But two Hayfield turnovers down the stretch led W/E/M (7-4 overall) to taking a 67-64 lead.

“Everything was going our way, but we just couldn’t hold on to the ball,” Hayfield head coach Chris Pack said. “They would’ve had to foul us and put us on the line if we could’ve controlled it.”

Still, the Vikings (4-7 overall) had a chance to tie with four seconds left, but Kody Kramer’s three-pointer was a little off.

“It was on line and it looked good. Just a hair long,” Pack said.

Ben Pollock had 20 points and 10 rebounds for Hayfield and Kody Kramer had 14 points and 12 rebounds.

Hayfield scoring: Pollock, 20; Kody Kramer, 14; Tanner Kramer, 11; Clint Freiheit, 8; Tyler Krekling, 7; Kelly Dornink, 4; Bobbie Stephens, 2
