Sparks to honor firefighters

Published Tuesday, February 24, 2009

State Sen. Dan Sparks (DFL-Austin) will officially congratulate area fire departments and deliver a Senate resolution honoring them for their service at 3 p.m. Friday at the Austin Fire Department, 122 First Ave. N.E. in Austin.

Sparks presented a resolution to the Minnesota Senate honoring the fire departments of Austin, Albert Lea, Brownsdale, Blooming Prairie and Rose Creek for their coordinated help in fighting the fire that consumed downtown Austin Jan. 15.

The firefighters had to brave temperatures as low as 25 degrees below zero and spent nearly 24 hours trying to save several downtown Austin buildings.

That Resolution, in addition to official congratulations, will be presented to area departments at Friday’s event. Fire Chief Dan Wilson from Austin, Chief Paul Stieler from Albert Lea, Chief Kurt Underwood from Blooming Prairie, Chief David Pike from Brownsdale, and Chief Fred Ulven from Rose Creek have been invited.

Think about it carefully, very carefully. If Austin, Albert Lea, Brownsdale, Blooming Prairie, and Rose Creek were on the scene downtown, then what would have happened if another fire were to start elsewhere in the community?

Maple View would have responded. It's called having a back up plan, or more simply... common sense.

Rhino--what do Wilson's looks have to do with anything? If you are going to hate Dan Wilson, hate him for something legitimate.

Rhino: You make me laugh! I have no idea what Chief Wilson's hair looks like, but need to see it. I'm kinda big on hair.

Wish I could have seen yours and Alylestud's comments before they were removed - Lyle's funny, too.

Keep making the comments more enjoyable to read!

Word on the street is this entire "Wilson" thing never even happened. That he didn't "blow up" and scream and threaten etc. Just what I heard is all.

Anyways, congrats to the fire fighters for doing a great job.

I too would liked to have seen what Rhino and ALYLESTUD had to say. It's apparent that the ADH is not going to ask the tough questions that need to be asked and reported, as does the Austin Post Bulletin. It also seems that the ADH is not in favor of free speech. Just another puppet in the whole scheme of things.

The article says the Fire Chiefs have been invited, but what about the firemen that did the actual work. Especially those from Austin. They should not have to receive congrats via a boss they have "no confidence" in.

Yup speak the truth and your comments get removed. I didnt swear, i didnt threaten anybody. I did nothing wrong. Freedom of speech just got stepped on by the ADH. If they dont want to see or let people say what they wont or what they feel, they better get rid of the whole comment section.

Hey Rhino, sounds like you should change you're name to Whino because that is all that you do
