Southland to dedicate Wellik memorial May 4
Published Friday, April 24, 2009
Rose Creek Southland Independent School District officials will dedicate a new Gerald Wellik memorial Wednesday, May 6.
Wellik was a popular and generous benefactor for the Southland school district and also Grand Meadow’s school district.
He funded scholarships for graduates in both districts and financed a fitness center in the Southland school at Adams.
The public is invited to the 2 p.m. May 6 ceremonies at Southland Elementary School, Rose Creek.
A tree will be planted in Wellik’s honor and the Elkton Class of 1950 —Wellik’s own high school graduating class — is donating a memorial stone to honor the benefactor.
The Southland band will entertain and refreshments will be served in the Elementary School cafeteria after the dedication ceremonies.
