Glamazons to return to Austin

Published Monday, September 15, 2008

A Riverland alumna and three sassy co-performers are boasting that “big is beautiful” with their second appearance in Austin.

“The Glamazons,” featuring St. Ansgar, Iowa native Sandy May (”Candy Apple”), will grace the Frank W. Bridges stage Friday and Saturday with their high-energy showtunes and positive body image message.

The group, based in New York City, placed in the top eight in NBC’s “America’s Got Talent” last year.

“After that, they went to Nashville, Las Vegas, Los Angeles,” said Jerry Girton, RCC theater director.

Girton said their show has a great message, but isn’t dull or preachy.

“The idea is you don’t have to be a size zero,” he said.

All proceeds from the show will benefit RCC scholarships.

The Glamazons will perform at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Tickets are $15 and $10 for students.
