The Blooming Prairie football team took a grounded approach to beat LeCenter 21-7 in BP Friday.

The Awesome Blossoms (2-1 overall) racked up 301 yards rushing as BP outscored LeCenter (2-1 overall) 15-0 in the third quarter to put the game away as they dominated the line of scrimmage.

“I give a lot of credit to our o-line and d-line, they just took over in the second half,” BP head coach Chad Gimbel said.

BP quarterback Austin Moe led the way with 229 yards on the ground on 30 carries.

“We just adjusted to the defense and went with a power running set with Austin carrying the ball,” Gimbel said.

LeCenter scored the first TD of the game when Matt Collins hit Luke Traxler on a 19-yard TD pass. BP took the lead on a 10-yard TD run by Matt Zellmer in the third quarter.

Moe, who passed for 41 yards, had a 71-yard run in the first half for a score and he found Cooper Nelson on a 20-yard passing play in the third quarter to give BP a 21-7 lead for good.

After falling to New Richland/HEG 42-33 in the opener, the BP defense has stepped up in its last two games.

“We learned a lot about ourselves in that first game. We’ve made some tweaks and moved some people around and it has helped,” Gimbel said.

LeCenter was ranked third in Class ‘A’ coming into the game, so it was a big win for the Blossoms.
