Published Wednesday, October 15, 2008

Two people were injured following an early Tuesday morning one-vehicle accident.

According to the Mower County Sheriff’s Office, a Volkswagen driven by Nicholas Giovanetti, 28, of Austin, and containing a lone passenger, Charles Grover, 22, of Austin, went out of control traveling southbound along Fourth Street Southeast (Mower County CSAH No. 29) near the CSAH No. 28 intersection and came to a rest in the driveway of a residence along the highway.

The vehicle struck a tree 8 feet above the ground before coming to a rest with its engine block exposed on the driveway.

A Gold Cross Ambulance Service crew took the pair to Austin Medical Center.

Alcohol is believed to have been involved in the accident and charges are pending, said Mark May, Mower County chief deputy.
