The Packer volleyball team capped off one of its best seasons in recent years with a win in Mankato East by scores of 17-25, 25-11, 25-21, 25-16 Tuesday.

Austin (14-9 overall, 5-4 Big Nine) finishes the season tied for third with Faribault and Century in the Big Nine.

On Tuesday the Packers had trouble adjusting to a cold gym in a first game loss, but when the Cougars played their senior reserves in the second game, Austin took a 25-11 win and went on to win the next two.

“When they subbed in the second game, that gave us the momentum we needed and it helped us warm up to the conditions,” Austin head coach Darica Schneider said. “I don’t think they were ready for the real Austin team in games three and four.”

Austin only missed two serves and had no hitting errors in the win.

“In this game of rallies and momentum, it’s key to get serves down,” Schneider said.

Schneider said the Packers helped create offense against East by using Ellen Ettinger and Nichelle Grage as attackers from the right side instead of always going to the middle.

Grage had 18 assists for Austin, Ettinger had 17 assists, Rebekah Aase had 16 kills, five blocks and two aces, while going 17-for-17 on serves, Jolene Brody had nine kills, 24 digs, and two aces while converting all 17 of her serves, Emma Arboe had 24 digs and 30 serve receives, while going 17-for-17 on serves, and Bri Mayer had eight kills and three blocks.
