The Blue Sox (4-9 overall, 1-1 Southern Minn. East) took out two weeks of frustration over a span of two innings in an 10-4 win over the Rochester Royals (9-4 overall) in Rochester in an amateur baseball game Wednesday.
After allowing two runs off of a miscue in the fifth, the Blue Sox led off the seventh inning with four straight hits to score four and they opened the eighth inning with four straight extra-base hits, including back-to-back homers by Pat Wolard and Dan Swift, to score another four.
“It had been two weeks since our last game, which was a loss to the Greyhounds,” Blue Sox manager Josh Kunze said. “We’ve been festering on that loss ever since and this game was almost a must win for us. It was really inspiring to see our guys hit today.”
Thing started out slowly as neither team scored in the first four innings.
“It was pretty tight through five. We kept ourselves in the ball game and in the eighth we kind of broke their backs,” Kunze said.
The Blue Sox host New Ulm Saturday at 8 p.m. and will host the Rochester Blues Sunday at 6 p.m. Both games will be played at Riverland.
