The Mower County Fair amateur talent show needs contestants.
According to Vandy Newman, the show's coordinator, "We have gotten a few entries, but we want more to make it more enjoyable and competitive for everyone."
The deadline for registering is noon Tuesday, the opening day of the 2001 Mower County Fair.
This year, Sue Radloff will join Tim Davis in judging the contestants.
Newman, who organized the Dexter amateur talent contest at Dexter United Methodist Church, when she lived in the community, is scouring Mower County for talent.
"We welcome people of all ages," Newman said. "Children, teen-agers and adults as well as senior citizens - they can perform for the fun of it and if they get lucky, they might find themselves winners of cash prizes and they could advance to the Minnesota State Fair this year."
That means, singers, dancers, instrumentalists, jugglers, comedians and any other skills that entertain are needed at the Mower County Fair.
Contestants must be residents of Mower County and pay a $10 fee.
The divisions include preteen for those 12 and younger, teen for those 13-19 and open for all others.
First-place winners in each division will be eligible to perform at the Minnesota State Fair.
A piano will be provided and contestants are required to use the sound system provided by the Mower County Fair Board.
The preteen competition takes place Tuesday, beginning 5:45 p.m. Teen contestants will compete Thursday at 5:45 p.m. and the open division contestants compete Friday at 5:30 p.m.
All of the divisions' contestants will compete on the Godfather's Pizza Fair Square stage.
The winners will entertain Sunday, also on the Fair Square stage.
For more information about entering the contest, call Newman at 437-4437 or the Fair Board office at 433-1868.
Entry forms with the Minnesota State Fair amateur talent contest rules and information are available upon request.
