Betty L. Dugan, 90

Betty L. Dugan of Austin, Minnesota, died Thursday, Oct. 9, 2014, at her home with her family at her side.

Betty was born Feb. 20, 1924, in Austin, Minnesota, to Joseph and Helen (Smith) Gaskill. She grew up in Austin and graduated from Austin High School in 1941, where she was honored to be Homecoming Queen. She married Nolan Dugan and to this union were born five children.

Betty enjoyed playing bridge, her many friends, and traveling. She always had a ready smile and a can-do spirit. Betty loved being with her family including grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was a hard worker and a caring volunteer for Meals on Wheels, St. Olaf Hospital auxiliary and the genealogy and historical society, to name a few.

Survivors include five children: Tom (Pam) Dugan, Champlin, Minnesota, Ruth (Joe) Sippel, Austin, Minnesota, Jim Dugan (fiancée Judy Anderson), Austin, Minnesota, Bill (Beth) Dugan, Minneapolis, Minnesota, Jane Dugan (Charlie Lundeen), Austin, Minnesota; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Nolan; brother, Laurence.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2014, at First United Methodist Church. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday at Mayer Funeral Home. The family will also greet friends at a luncheon following the service at the church on Tuesday. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Condolences may be left online at www.mayerfh.com.
