School Board to hear about ELL programming

The Austin School Board will hear an overview of the district’s English Language Learner program durings its regular meeting Monday.

The program is of particular interest in Austin, whose student diversity has grown markedly over the past several years. Almost 50 different languages are spoken in the district.

ELL Coordinator Lynn Hemann will present the information.

Gifted and Talented Coordinator Edwina Harder will also present to the board, with an overview of the new teacher mentorship program. Integration Coordinator Kristi Beckman will also provide information and request approval of the integration budget.

Topping personnel issues will be the retirement request made by Amy Baskin, administrator of the Community Learning Center.

Also on the agenda will be a request for a roofing bid for Packer Gym by Director of Facility Services Brian Beasley.

Mark Stotts, director of finance and operations, will seek approval of the annual capital budget.

The meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. at the council chambers of Austin City Hall.
