Century slips past Austin boys hockey team in regular season finale

The Austin boys hockey team closed out its regular season with a 3-1 loss to Big Nine champion Rochester Century in Riverside Arena Monday.

Jacob Halsey scored to bring the Packers within 2-1 in the third period, but the Panthers (20-4-1 overall, 13-1-1 Big Nine) iced it when Will Corrigan scored an empty netter with a minute left into game.

Austin (7-17-1 overall, 3-12-1 Big Nine) had 14 shots on goal and Noah Bawek stopped 37 of the 39 shots he saw.

Austin will open the Section 1A tournament when it hosts No. 10 Winona Tuesday at 7 p.m. The winner will play at No. 2 Mankato East.
