Man pleads guilty to solicitation of a minor

Rodger James Montgomery, 62, pleaded guilty to felony soliciting a child to engage in sexual conduct through electronic communication as part of a plea agreement on Friday in Mower County District Court.

Charges of felony prostitution – hiring or agreeing to hire someone13 to 15 years of age and felony soliciting a child to engage in sexual conduct will be dropped at the sentencing.

Montgomery initially pleaded not guilty to all charges in August.

According to the court complaint, the Austin Police Department received information that Montgomery had been soliciting a 15-year-old male via social media. The victim sent the police photographs of messages in which Montgomery offered him $100 to “clean,” and indicated he would pay $200 for sex.

Police executed a search warrant on Montgomery’s residence and seized two computer towers, a monitor, a router, a cell phone and a notebook containing usernames and passwords.

Montgomery told police his computer and cell phone had been hacked.

Montgomery will be sentenced on Jan. 5.
