The Riverland Community College volleyball team went out swinging in one of its best efforts of the season as it played the top team in the MCAC close in Riverland Gym Friday night. The Blue Devils won the first game, but they weren’t able to take the match as they lost to Ridgewater (21-7 overall) by scores of 22-25, 25-18, 25-20, 25-17 in their final match of the season.

“It was fun. We knew we had it in us all season,” RCC freshman Elly Buck said. “We’ve had a lot of lineup changes this season and it was really fun to have this be our last match.”

Buck, who is from Owatonna, had 11 kills and 15 digs for RCC (4-21 overall) and she found a knack for playing with LeRoy-Ostrander grad Sam Siskow this fall.

“We kind of hit it off in the first week because we were partners in the first week of practice,” Siskow said. “We kind of fed off of each other and we both know how to read other players.”

Siskow, a sophomore, racked up 17 kills on Friday to go over the 300 kill mark on the season. She said that Buck made her final season with the RCC volleyball team a fun one.

“[Elly] tells me were to go and I tell her where to go and it helps us get kills. We use each other for energy,” Siskow said.

RCC stats: Marissa Hart, 22 set assists; Elly Buck, 15 digs, 11 kills; Sam Siskow, 13 digs,17 kills, 1 ace serve; Steph Holicky, 1 ace serve
