Police to offer Citizen Academy; Participants will gain insight into Austin department

The Austin Police Department will host its third annual Citizen Academy starting in September. Participants can learn about police work and meet the officers. Space is limited to 18 participants.

“They will learn about the different responsibilities of the police department,” said Austin Police Chief Brian Krueger. “We wear a lot of different hats.”

The free, six-week course will be every Tuesday from 6-8:30 p.m. on Sept. 12, 19 and 26 and Oct. 3, 10 and 17 at the Law Enforcement Center, 201 First St. NE.

Krueger asks that those who sign-up please plan to attend all sessions.

To participate, you must be an Austin resident or business owner age 21 or older. Applications are available at the Law Enforcement Center or online at www.ci.austin.mn.us. Register early as class size is limited.
