Alumni Update: Southland grad Elizabeth May competes in her last Ashton May Invite

TRACK AND FIELD

Southland grad Elizabeth May, a senior at University of Wisconsin La Crosse, recently competed in the Ashton May Invite for the final time in La Crosse.

May took fifth in the javelin throw with a distance of 105 feet, 1 inch and she finished 15th in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.87

Southland grad McKenzie Kirtz, who also competes for UW-La Crosse, took 11th in the javelin throw with a distance of 93 feet, 1 inch, and she was 13th in the 1500 meter run with a time of 4:54.41.

The Ashton May Invite is dedicated Elizabeth May’s late sister.

Austin grad Madison Overby took first place in the 1,500 meter run with a personal record time of 4:39.28 for the University of North Dakota at the Mondo Team Challenge in Sacramento State University April 1.

Austin grad Carolyn Hackel finished third out of 14 competitors in the Heptathlon for Minnesota State University at the MIAA vs. NISC Showdown in Northwest Missouri State University April 6 to April 8.

Hackel ran the 100-hurdles in 14.32 seconds, the 200-dash in 25.90 seconds, the 800-dash in 2:37.24 she had a jump of 5 feet, .25 inches in the high jump. a throw of 89 feet, 7 inches in the javelin, a throw of 30 feet, 6.25 inches in the shot put and a long jump with a distance of 15 feet, 8.5 inches.

Pacelli grad Sarah Holtz took first in the high jump with a height of 5 feet, 2.5 inches and second in the javelin throw with a distance of 106 feet, 4 inches for Luther College at the Norse Relays April 8.

Holtz also played basketball for the Norse in the winter.

BASEBALL

Austin native Steve Serratore was 1-for-3 with an RBI for Kansas State University in a 6-3 loss to Oklahoma State University April 9.

Serratore is hitting .261 with 3 doubles, 2 triples, 5 homers and 28 Rbis for the Wildcats (16-16 overall).

Lyle grad Jordan Hart went 1-for-7 as the Mavericks swept University of Sioux Falls by scores of 2-1 and 4-0 April 11.

Hart is hitting .351 with 7 doubles, 1 triple, 4 homers and 25 RBIs for the Mavericks (26-5 overall, 21-1 Northern Sun).

Austin grad Dylan Gasner recently hit his first ever college home run at Iowa Central Community College. Gasner has played in 13 games for Iowa Central (22-11 overall) and he is hitting .233 with 1 homer and 3 RBIs, while drawing 6 walks.

Pacelli grad Daniel Bollingberg has played 8 games this season at the University of St. Thomas (12-9 overall).

Bollingberg is hitting .154 with 5 walks and an RBI.

Hayfield grad Cam Rutledge has played in 22 games this season at RCTC, where he is hitting .273 with 3 doubles, 1 triple and an RBI. The Yellowjackets are 12-12 overall.

SOFTBALL

Hayfield grad Dani Wagner went 1-for-3 with an 2 RBIs and a walk as the University of Minnesota softball team swept Indiana by scores of 8-0 and 10-2 April 8.

Wagner is hitting .362 with 5 doubles, 1 triple, 4 homers and 21 RBIs this season for the Gophers (35-3 overall, 8-1 Big Ten).

Austin grad Sydney Murphy was 0-for-1 with RBI and Hayfield grad Grace Mindrup was 2-for-3 with 2 RBIs as UW-LaCrosse (18-10 overall) lost to No. 5 ranked Luther College 11-3 April 5.

Mindrup is hitting .339 with 6 doubles, 1 triple, 2 homers and 15 RBIs for the Eagles and Murphy is hitting .329 with 4 doubles and 20 RBIs.

Austin grad Shayley Vesel is hitting .327 with 12 doubles, 6 homers and 45 RBIs for NIACC, which is 10-26 overall on the season.
