Toward Zero Deaths arrests down from 2015; Austin, Mower make 29 arrests during the enforcement period

The Austin Police Department and Mower County Sheriff’s office made 29 arrests for driving while intoxicated during a 2016 holiday enforcement period and three of those arrests came from officers or deputies on Toward Zero Deaths overtime.

Statewide, 2,407 drivers were arrested during the enhanced enforcement period targeting intoxicated drivers from Nov. 23 to Dec. 30. That was down from the 2,502 arrested in 2015. Seat belt citations were also down with 1,647 in 2016 compared to 2,095 in 2015 — Austin and Mower only had one.

Austin and Mower County Law Enforcement scheduled 55 hours of TZD overtime during the period, and three of the 29 arrests resulted in the overtime.

The highest blood alcohol concentration stopped during the period in city of Austin was 0.2, but that was far below the highest in Minnesota during the period was 0.38 in South St. Paul.
