Various Austin Masonic Lodge groups continued a tradition last holiday season by ringing bells for the Austin Salvation Army, and the club donated more than $42,000 to Lt. David Amick on Friday.
The Shriners collected $9,453 during a bell-ringing event in early December. Those dollars were matched by Minnesota Masonic Charities to bring the total to $18,906.
Then members of the Masonic Lodge with help from the Eastern Star members and friends rang bells at Fridays and Saturdays from Thanksgiving to Christmas at Austin’s Hy-Vee. Those efforts raised $14,047, $10,000 of which was matched by Minnesota Masonic Charities.
Overall, the clubs and Minnesota Masonic Charities matches totaled $42,900. Volunteers rang bells for about 332 hours.
