The Austin Salvation Army is in need for more bell ringers.

Stacy Wisemore of the corps said from now until Dec. 24, only about half of the slots are filled. All ages are welcome and volunteers can ring with family or friends. The next two weekends are particularly important, she said, since there are challenges both of those weekends.

On this weekend, there is a Vikings vs. Green Bay challenge, to see who can raise the most money; next weekend, the firefighters and police go head to head to see their name on a traveling trophy if they raise the most.

The corps also distributes toys each year, donated by the community. This year, there are Angel Trees located at Shopko, Runnings and Pizza Ranch. Each tree has tags to be taken, with instructions on a toy purchase.

Last year, almost 900 youth benefitted from the effort.
