The Hayfield girls basketball team jumped out to a strong start as it beat Pine Island (1-1 overall, 0-1 HVL) 69-45 in Hayfield Tuesday.

Olivia Matti, who scored 17 points, hit four first half-three pointers for the Vikings (1-1 overall, 1-0 HVL), who took a 39-22 lead into the break.

“We played very good offense in the first half and we kind of put it on cruise control in the second half,” Hayfield head co-head Kasey Krekling said. “One thing we still have to work on is rebounding.”
