Alumni Update: Hitting the hardwood

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Blooming Prairie grads Madison Worke and Taylor Hagen are both contributing at the college level in basketball this winter.

Hagen had four points and three rebounds in an 88-39 loss to Iowa for the Panthers (5-4 overall) Dec. 4. On the season, she has started eight of nine games and she’s averaging 4.0 points and 2.2 rebounds per game.

Worke had two points and one rebound in a 60-36 win over Southwest Minnesota State University Dec. 3. On the season, Worke has played in five games and she’s averaging 1.8 points, 1.0 rebounds and .4 assists per game for the No. 19 ranked Warriors (9-2 overall). Worke is 4-for-8 on field goals and 1-for-2 on three-pointers.

Pacelli grad Sarah Holtz had 10 points and five rebounds in a 67-65 loss to UW-River Falls Dec. 10.

Holtz has played in all nine games this season for the Norse (5-4 overall) and she’s averaging 7.8 points, 5.8 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game. Holtz is shooting 47 percent from the field, 33 percent on three-pointers and 75 percent on free throws.

Grand Meadow grad Rio Landers had 4 points and 7 rebounds for Dordt College in a 80-61 loss to Midland Dec. 7.

Austin grad Mer Gach had 11 points and six rebounds for Lake Region State College in a 72-52 win over Concordia JV Dec. 4.

Gach is averaging 6.2 points and 4.8 rebounds per game at Lake Region (8-4 overall).

Landers is averaging 5.2 points and 2.7 rebounds per game for the Defenders (5-7 overall).

MEN’S BASKETBALL

Austin grad Gach Gach poured in 28 points while going 8-for-15 on three-pointers for North Dakota State College of Science in a 108-55 win over Jamestown JV Dec. 10. Gach also had seven rebounds and three steals in the win.

On the season, Gach is averaging 18 points, 4.9 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game, while shooting 40.4 percent on three-pointers and 82.9 percent on free throws.

Austin grad Zach Wessels tallied a career high 18 points to go along with 3 assists as he went 6-for-8 from the field for the University of Sioux Falls in a 90-81 at Winona State University Dec. 2.

Austin grad Tom Aase had 4 points and 6 rebounds in that win, which was the first time USF ever won at Winona State since it joined the NSIC.

Aase had 8 points, 4 rebounds and 2 blocks and Wessels had 5 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists in an 84-50 win over Mount Marty for the Cougars (6-7 overall).

Wessels has started in 11 games this season and he is averaging 6.8 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game and Aase has started 4 games, while averaging 5.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and a team-high 1.2 blocks.

Austin grad Bret Lukes scored 13 points for Hamline University in a 66-54 win over Carleton College Dec. 10.

Lukes is averaging 6.8 points per game for the Pipers (5-3 overall) while shooting 33 percent on three-pointers and 81 percent on free throws.

Hayfield grad Cole Kruger had 9 points, three rebounds and 4 assists for Saint Mary’s University Dec. 10.

Kruger is averaging 10.1 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game for the Cardinals (4-3 overall).

HOCKEY

Austin grad Chloe Summerfield has played in one game and scored one goal for the UW-Eau Claire women’s hockey team this season.

Summerfield scored her goal in a 5-3 win over Saint Benedict Dec. 5 for the Blugolds (9-41 overall).

In the fall, Summerfield played on the UW-EC soccer team. She started one game in net and stopped six of the eight shots she saw.
