Best Bets: A family-filled weekend

Get ready for a weekend of family-friendly activities that give people a chance to show off their creative sides.

1. Calico Hutch Quilters Retreat

All weekend in the Austin Holiday Inn Conference Center.

6 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the Austin YMCA

Children in kindergarten through sixth grades can enjoy an evening of Autism Spectrum Disorder-appropriate fun staffed by ASD professionals. Activities may include snack-making, swimming, crafts, and games. For children with restricted diets, please send their own snacks. Cost $5. 3. Exploring Abstract Art with Watercolor and Acrylics

10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Austin ArtWorks Center

4. Kids’ Studio – Accordion Books

10:30 a.m. to noon Friday at the Austin ArtWorks Center

7. History Happy Hour

5:30 p.m. Monday at the Hormel Historic Home.

Learn about the history of Mower County cemeteries, presented by Jamie Timm of the Mower County Historical Society. Social hour starts at 5:30 p.m., presentation at 6 p.m. Free for members of Hormel Historic Home, Mower County Historical Society, and Friends of the Austin Public Library. Cost is $5 for non-members.
